It was January of 2005 and we had heard about two Arabian horses that needed a home because the owners had no time for them. There was a bay mare, Fee Gee and her 6 month old colt, Jeff. We arranged to go out and look at them just to see them and consider buying them. When we got to where they “lived,” we were absolutely appalled! Both Fee Gee and Jeff were in kept in a tiny corral, with no shelter and with mud up to their knees. Mind you, it was winter time, so it was very cold and very muddy. Fee Gee had a rope halter on her caked in mud and impossible to get off (we eventually had to cut the halter off, because of the mud.) Both horses were drinking water out of a small, old bathtub and was being fed old, icky hay. We knew right then and there that we needed to save these horses. Just the look in Fee Gee’s eyes told so many stories. We went home, got the trailer, bought the horses and took them home, to somewhere nice, somewhere with shelter, somewhere with loving people. We later found out that Fee Gee was only 2 years old with a 6 month old foal. Apparently, their stud “accidentally” got out…

It took some time to get both horses healthy. We had to cut Fee Gee’s mane because of the mud.She had a bad case of rain rot and both horses had thrush. With good feed, supplements and nutrients, they finally came around. Their coats was shiny and smooth, there was hope and light in their eyes again, and their feet healthy (with the help of our wonderful farrier). We got Fee Gee used to a halter and lead rope, leading, picking up her hooves, etc. We got Jeff halter broke. They actually got to be horses, running and stretching their legs in big open pastures, not crammed into a small corral with mud and no place to lay down.
Today, Fee Gee lives down in California and is treated like a princess!!!! She doesn’t even look like the same horse!!!!!! She is absolutely amazing!!! We still have Jeff, that silly goofball! He’s turning out to be a great horse, with a great personality and beautiful coloring. We couldn’t think of where they would be if we didn’t save them and give them a second chance as well.
